Silkworm 5th instar

5th instar larva (8-9 days)

Approximately 6 ~ 8cm in size.
Feed whole mulberry leaves two or three times a day (Kyusou). Then, clean up the droppings and leftover food once a day (Jyosa).

※The fifth instar eats over 80% of the mulberry leaves it will eat in its lifetime, so be careful not to run out of food.

“Jyukusan” (mature silkworm)
After the 5th to 7th day of growth, the amount of food eaten will gradually decrease. After one or two days, the larva’s body length shrinks a little as it expels excess material from its body, and its body becomes more transparent.

When the silkworm turns its head upward and starts shaking from side to side, it is a signal that it has started making a cocoon.
