沿革

1894年、東京都八王子市にて「二階堂織物」として創業。当初は着物地の生産に携わり、時代の変化に合わせて織物を作り続けてきました。戦後の着物需要の減少期を経て、1980年代以降は国内外のデザイナーに向けて生地を制作・提供しています。

1998年、工房を山梨県市川三郷町の山あいに移転。現在は4代目・5代目が家蚕・天蚕の飼育から草木染め、手織りまでを手掛け、自然とともに歩む布づくりを継承しています。

History

Founded in 1894 as Nikaido Textile in Hachioji, Tokyo, the company originally produced kimono fabrics. Through Japan’s modernization, postwar changes, and shifts in demand, we continued weaving textiles while adapting to the times.

In 1998, we moved our atelier to the mountains of Yamanashi, where the 4th and 5th generations of the Nakagawara family now carry on the legacy of silk weaving, including raising silkworms, natural dyeing, and hand-weaving unique textiles.
