山のあいだで、繭から布まで。
山梨県市川三郷町の山間にある、かつ地域の人々が稚蚕を育てていた家屋を工房にして、
山まゆの里染織工房（yamamayu）は暮らしとともに布を作っています。
家族三人で、繭から糸を紡ぎ、植物や染料で色を重ね、
昔ながらの足踏み織り機や力織機で布を織り上げる──
そんな、時間の流れに寄りそうものづくりです。
130年つづく、養蚕と染織の知恵。
私たちの工房のルーツは、1894年八王子で創業の二階堂織物にさかのぼります。
機の音が身近にある環境で育まれてきた知恵を受け継ぎながら、
今の暮らしに寄り添う布を目指して、日々手を動かしています。
繭から真綿へ、真綿から糸へ、糸から布へ。
一枚の布のうしろには、季節の移ろいや、
山の循環のなかで生きてきた生きものたちの気配があります。
自然とともにある、循環する布づくり。
工房のそばには、桑や檜などの木々が育ち、
野蚕や家蚕の繭をいただきながら、
染めに使った植物や繭から取り出した蛹は土へと還っていきます。
私たちの仕事は、布をつくることと同時に、
小さな循環を生み出すことでもあります。
自然のリズムに耳を澄ましながら、
「いま、ここ」の暮らしをあたためる布をお届けしたいと願っています。

yamamayuの布は、日本各地の百貨店やギャラリーを旅しながら、
手にとってくださる方の暮らしの中へと迎えられていきます。
一枚のストール、一枚の風呂敷が、
纏う人の時間とともに少しずつ育っていくような──
そんな布であったら嬉しく思います。
オンラインショップでは、Collector’s（一点もの）、
Signature（身にまとう布）、Studio（日々の小さな布）という3つのラインで、
繭から生まれた布をご紹介しています。

English Version
In the mountain valley, from cocoon to textile.
In Ichikawa Misato, a mountain town in Yamanashi Prefecture, our studio is housed in a former home where local people once raised young silkworms. From this place, yamamayu (Yamamayu no Sato Dyeing and Weaving Studio) creates textiles that grow alongside everyday life.
As a family of three, we spin thread from cocoons, layer colours with plants and dyes, and weave textiles on traditional foot looms and power looms. It is a way of making that stays close to the flow of time.
130 years of sericulture and textile craft.
Our roots go back to Nikaidou Orimono, a weaving business founded in 1894 in Hachioji. We carry on the knowledge that has grown in a life surrounded by the sound of looms, and with our hands we work each day to create textiles that gently fit into contemporary life.
From cocoon to silk floss, from floss to thread, from thread to textile. Behind each piece lies the changing of the seasons and the presence of living beings within the cycles of the mountains.
Textile making in harmony with nature’s cycles.
Around our studio, mulberry, hinoki cypress and other trees grow. We receive cocoons from both wild and domestic silkworms, and the plants used for dyeing and the pupae taken from the cocoons eventually return to the soil.
Our work is not only to make textiles, but also to nurture small cycles of giving and returning. Listening closely to the rhythm of nature, we hope to offer textiles that bring warmth to life “here and now”.
Traveling textiles, close to everyday life.
yamamayu textiles travel to department stores and galleries across Japan, and from there are welcomed into the daily lives of those who hold them.
We hope that a single stole or furoshiki will slowly grow along with the time of the person who wears or uses it.
In our online shop, we present textiles born from cocoons in three lines: Collector’s (one-of-a-kind pieces), Signature (wearable textiles), and Studio (small textiles for everyday life).
