Playful Rhythms of Textile

Collector’s Gallery

Both warp and weft are made entirely of hand-spun mawata silk. Based on plain weave, a variety of woven rhythms were layered freely, allowing the cloth to grow through playfulness and movement.

Each structure gathers like a musical note, giving the whole textile a quiet resonance. It is light to wear, and equally joyful to behold.

About the Work

While grounded in plain weave, different woven expressions are layered so that small rhythms appear one after another across the cloth. Its not-too-perfect movement becomes the breathing of the work itself.

Because everything is composed of hand-spun mawata silk, the textile holds a soft thickness within its lightness, and each time it is seen or touched, it gives rise to a different kind of familiarity.

Background

In this work, rather than following only a prearranged design, multiple weave structures were layered while receiving the feeling that rose during the act of weaving itself. Each structure appears like a musical note, creating a gentle rhythm across the whole textile.

Its appearance changes with light and angle, and the color may differ slightly between photograph and actual work. The irregularity created by hand-spun yarn and diverse woven structures is part of the individuality of the piece.
